My Maundy Family

Unfortunately, the world seems to be swamped by political and social turmoil, war, climate change and economic uncertainty. For many people, this is a time of unprecedented struggle. The rising cost of living means that some people do not have enough income to meet their basic needs.

Furthermore, their issues can be exacerbated by numerous other challenges that they are faced with such as poor physical or mental health, trauma, unemployment, bereavement, crime and bullying. Through no fault of their own, people are being deprived of opportunity and hope. Maundy Relief is a very special charity that serves as the beating heart of a community. I believe wholeheartedly that Maundy Relief is a family like no other; a family who firmly believe in the Power of Giving. They make it a priority to support and give back to the community while working tirelessly every day to help support their guests through a range of services. They demonstrate patience, compassion and care in every situation and visitors are treated in a dignified manner.

We all have a story. Sometimes we may not have the courage to share it or we may not have the support around us to feel that we can speak to someone without being judged. I arrived to Maundy Relief as a young boy with my own story of grief and sadness. The Maundy Family provided my mum and I with unconditional love, kindness and support. We were not judged, we were never turned away and we were never too much trouble. We were surrounded by staff and volunteers that cared and helped us navigate our lives into some sort of normality. For this reason, I will forever be indebted to my Maundy Family.

Being a member of the Maundy Relief family fills me with pride because they have been integral in cultivating me into the young man I am today. They have taught me qualities of compassion, patience, respect, empathy and sensitivity towards others. They have allowed me to have an awareness of our sociality and take action. We have a chance to make a real difference to the communities we live in. This can only happen if we all take action and support the most vulnerable. Please support Maundy Relief so that they can continue to support others.
