March 2024 Updates

Wondering what we’ve been up to here at Maundy Relief? It’s been a busy month, and as we approach the Easter weekend, we can only imagine it’s going to get busier! March has seen the return of many of our beloved activity groups, as well as new students, and exciting donations from our amazing supporters. Read on to discover just what we’ve been up to!

Group News

Maundy’s activity groups are blossoming this Spring. As usual, we’ve had our Cooking and Art Groups on a Monday, and our Women’s Group on a Thursday. On a Friday afternoon we have our Music Group and we were delighted to see a big increase in people attending this month. It’s always great to hear them jamming together, and the incredibly talented Richard is happy to tutor anyone looking to learn.

We were also able to bring back our Growing Group on the 21st after a successful bid for funding. As we move into Spring and (hopefully) start to feel some warmer weather, we’re excited to see what the group will grow, and taste the wonderful fruits and veggies that sprout up!

Our Fishing Group is set to commence again very soon so keep an eye out for updates about that too.

If you’re interested in getting involved in any of our groups, please contact the Drop-In on 01254 232328 to find out more details and register your interest. Our groups are available to anyone, from beginners to experts, and we always aim to create a welcoming and accessible environment.

Student Placement Scheme

At the beginning of the month, we welcomed our most recent set of social work students, Sarah and Matt. They’ve already made a great impact at Maundy, providing assistance at the Drop-In and working with the Advice team. We regularly host student placements at Maundy where we offer training and experience in our various areas of work. We’re really grateful for the energy, hard work and ideas that they bring to Maundy.

Similarly, we’re on our second set of medical students of the year! The medical students work closely with our nurse, June, to provide biopsychosocial support to many of our guests. We’ve received lots of positive feedback about their impact and we’re proud to have them here representing Maundy.

Your Support

We’ve received some brilliant donations and support this month and it’s important to recognise that we couldn’t do what we do without your help. We’d like to thank Accrington Rotary who have been collecting household items to support Ukrainian families, Scott Dawson Advertising who made an amazing donation of clothes to our shop, and to the donors who have provided us with some high value items that we have been able to sell on eBay to raise further funds, including an electric bike, a Louis Vuitton scarf, and an absolutely stunning Chinese bureau!

After our Facebook appeal for Halal food, we also received some very kind donations of food which we would like to thank you for.

To keep Maundy Relief running we rely on your support and donations, no matter how big or small. We’re always grateful for whatever you can give, if you would like to make a donation, of any kind, please contact our Drop-In on 01254 232328.

March has certainly been a busy month, but we can’t wait to do it all again in April! If you’d like to keep up to date with all that goes on, search for us on Facebook and be sure to give us a follow. Thank you!
