Maundy Relief – We work on the frontline in the community by responding immediately to need.

Maundy Relief’s ‘Walk for World Homelessness Day’
At Maundy Relief we work closely with those experiencing homelessness in Hyndburn. A large number of our service users have experienced homelessness at different points in their lives, and we are there to provide support and advice at every step of the journey towards settled accommodation from providing short-term emergency accommodation to helping with household goods and practical support when someone moves into their new home. So, for World Homelessness Day this year, we decided to hold a fundraising event to raise funds and awareness of homelessness in our local area.
On Thursday 10th October 2024, Maundy’s staff, guests, supporters and volunteers will be walking 9 kilometres from Abbey Street up Hameldon Hill and back. We have already reached our goal of signing up 50 people to take part, and we hope that with their sponsorships and donations, we’ll raise as much money as possible to help us support people experiencing homelessness. Our goal is to raise £1000 – we’ve already raised over half of this! If you’d like to make a donation, you can do so here: Maundy Relief is fundraising for Maundy Relief (justgiving.com).
It’s important to remember that homelessness does not always look like rough sleeping. Many of the people we support that are classed as homeless may be living in temporary accommodation, or even ‘sofa surfing.’ Unfortunately, the Hyndburn area has a higher rate of households that are under threat of homelessness than the Northwest average. As always, Maundy’s aim is to provide an immediate and comprehensive response to those who come to us in need. We run many different services here in addition to our housing advice and night shelter. These include our food bank, community lunches, benefits advice, and physical and mental health support and counselling. We always try to ensure that service users are given the opportunity to access as many of these as they may need. This has proven to be our most effective way of providing support. As such, we rely on fundraising and support from our sponsors to fund these different services. If you would like to get involved in raising money for us, or to make a one-off donation, you can get in touch by calling 01254 232328.
Finally, good luck and thank you to everyone taking on our Walk for World Homelessness Day challenge!
