Volunteer Retail Assistant

Purpose of this role

Selling second hand, retail products to the public.

Duties Include:

• A commitment to our aims – an immediate response to poverty and need
• Serving and assisting customers with purchases
• Sorting, pricing and merchandising stock
• Helping maintain the cleanliness of the shop
• Use of a wireless card payment machine
• Counting out the correct change when tendering cash
• Communicating with customers over the phone and in person, answering all questions they have about products and delivery
• Deferring to store management when there are any complaints
• Following procedures like dress code, customer etiquette, safety regulations, and other precautions and requirements
• Lifting heavy items when necessary
• Completing tasks as delegated by the shop manager

Personal skills and qualities that a retail assistant needs:

• Excellent communication skills and customer engagement
• A creative, visual person with a good eye for what customer’s need
• Be able to work independently, as well as with colleagues
• Trustworthy and honest
• A helpful, friendly manner
