Case Study – Mohammed
Mohammad a gentleman in his 50’s was referred to Maundy Relief’s health service via Maundy Relief’s counselling service following the death of his long term partner. Originally from overseas Mohammad had few if any, local support networks or friendships and therefore had an healthy but inter-dependent relationship with his partner.
Mohammad’s partner sadly died in hospital during the Covid pandemic and unfortunately Mohammad was not allowed to be with his loved one at the end of life. This naturally impacted in an extremely negative way for Mohammad, resulting in social isolation and both active and passive suicidal tendencies. On initial assessment Mohammad was extremely emotional, however, found talking about his feelings cathartic. He shared stories with our nurse, looked at photographs and Mohammad was encouraged to create a memory box (which he did).
Over time Mohammad was better able to process his feelings and made the decision to live. He joined Maundy Relief’s social groups and formed new friendships. Of his own volition he no longer receives counselling and engages only intermittently with Maundy Relief’s health service and continues to make excellent progress mentally. Mohammad finds our staff, “funny and you make me laugh”. On discharge Mohammad is considering a volunteering role at Maundy – he is a very intelligent and educated person and will be an asset to our organisation.
